On Monday 20th April the group of 27 students and 11 teachers received a warm welcome from the hosts. Our first day started with a visit to the Town Hall where we shook hands with the mayor of Slavičín and each team had an opportunity to talk to him. The welcome in school was equally hearty. Traditional Czech songs performed by an amazing school choir and speeches delivered by the Czech coordinator and the head teacher (in English and French

made us all feel at home. Afterwards we started the journey through the regional traditional products of each country. Not only did each team present the products on the screen, but also we were able to taste some of the culinary specialities and talk about the recipes of our favorites. In the afternoon we solved maths puzzles in the park. 5 international groups had to take diverse measurements and make calculations and collect points at 8 check points in the green scenery of the Slavicin Park. The tasks were challenging. The participants had to use different sources of information and equipment. Group discussion and cooperation was vital in this process. Congrats to the Blue team that scored 70 points out of 80! The runner up was the purple team with 65 points and the third place went to yellow team with 64 points. All groups felt a sense of achievement. The tasks gave the students a chance to practice their maths and language skills but also created bonds between the group members as nothing unites as strongly as a common goal. The day ended with a welcome disco that gave us all a chance to socialise and admire one another’s dancing skills.
